Unusual Whipped Ocean

Suddenly the shoreline north of Sydney were transformed into the Cappuccino Coast. (Click on the images to enlarge)

Foam swallowed an entire beach and half the nearby buildings, including the local lifeguards' centre, in a freak display of nature at Yamba in New South Wales. One minute a group of teenage surfers were waiting to catch a wave, the next they were swallowed up in a giant bubble bath. The foam was so light that they could puff it out of their hands and watch it float away.

Tom Woods, 12, emerges from the clouds of foam after deciding that surfing was not an option. It stretched for 30 miles out into the Pacific in a phenomenon not seen at the beach for more than three decades. Scientists explain that the foam is created by impurities in the ocean, such as salts, chemicals, dead plants, decomposed fish and excretions from seaweed. All are churned up together by powerful currents which cause the water to form bubbles. These bubbles stick to each other as they are carried below the surface by the current towards the shore. As a wave starts to form on the surface, the motion of the water causes the bubbles to swirl upwards and, massed together, they become foam. The foam "surfs" towards shore until the wave "crashes", tossing the foam into the air.

The foam was so thick it came all the way up to the surf club. "It's the same effect you get when you whip up a milk shake in a blender," explains a marine expert. "The more powerful the swirl, the more foam you create on the surface and the lighter it becomes." In this case, storms off the New South Wales Coast and further north off Queensland had created a huge disturbance in the ocean, hitting a stretch of water where there was a particularly high amount of the substances which form into bubbles. As for 12-year-old beachgoer Tom Woods, who has been surfing since he was two, riding a wave was out of the question. "Me and my mates just spent the afternoon leaping about in that stuff," he said. "It was quite cool to touch and it was really weird. It was like clouds of air - you could hardly feel it."

Model's lover kills her mother, uncle, then shoots himself

A young businessman from Orissa who was spurned by a model he was in love with killed her mother and uncle before shooting himself early on Friday at Andheri in Mumbai.

Avinash Patnaik ran a rice mill at Angul in Orissa. He was in love with upcoming model Moushumi Moon Das. Moushumi, a native of Kolkata, came to Mumbai to pursue a modelling career three years ago. A beauty contest participant, she has appeared in TV commercials for Kelvinator and Reliance. They first met when Moon had gone to Orissa to perform at a New Year party this year and later started seeing each other. According to the police, he would often travel to Mumbai to visit Moushumi. But the relationship soon ran into problems. The affair lasted till August, after which Moon broke off relations with Avinash but he refused to back off.

"Moushumi has told us that Avinash was hot-tempered and possessive, and got physically violent with her on a couple of occasions. She then broke off with him and stopped taking his calls," said senior inspector Kiran Sonone.

On Wednesday morning, Avinash loaded his pistol and left home to drive down to Mumbai. He reached Oshiwara at around 10.30 pm on Thursday. After entering his name in the building register, he strode upstairs and shot Kannan and Vikaschandra. "The two did not even get a chance to struggle. Avinash motioned to them to move towards the bedroom, where he shot them in the chest," said ACP Kaiser Ahmed.

All this while, Moushumi had been trying to call her mother from her cellphone. Getting no response, she got worried and rushed home with her friend, Romesh Sharma. Around 11.30 pm, she rang the doorbell. "When Avinash opened it a crack and she saw his pistol, Moushumi realised that something was terribly wrong and quickly shut the door, latching it from outside," Sonone added.

Moushumi and Sharma then hurried to the Oshiwara police station and brought the police back to the apartment.
Avinash had latched it from inside, and the door had to be broken down. The police speculate that the youngster must have seen them from the window of the apartment and killed himself in panic. Three cartridges were recovered from the spot. Officials said the pistol was unlicensed and had been loaded with just three bullets.

(Avinash Patnaik’s father Bhupen collapses after seeing his son’s body at the J J Hospital morgue)

Avinash's elder brother, Pritam, who lives in Goregaon, was informed about the incident by the police. Moushumi, who is in shock after the incident, also telephoned her father and brother at Kolkata, who boarded a flight for Mumbai on Friday.

(Moon Das with friends at the J J morgue)

A post-mortem examination was carried out on the bodies. Forensic experts said that no bullets were found in the three bodies since the shots passed through them. The doctors have preserved skin samples, which will be sent to ballistic experts to ascertain the distance and direction from which Avinash fired.

"We still have to visit the spot. We hope that the circumstantial evidence will make things more clear," said Dr V N Tasgaonkar who conducted the post-mortem.

Pritam and his friends, who were waiting outside the post-mortem centre, refused to comment. No one from Moushumi's family came to claim the two bodies. The Oshiwara police have registered a case of murder against Avinash.

(Video) Heidi Klum's breast boast - Victoria's Secret Fashion Show ad

Supermodel Heidi Klum has boasted she has "great knockers". She can be seen playing with her breasts in the new TV commercial for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

In the 30 second clip, the 34-year-old blonde - clad only in a plain black bra - fondles and jiggles her ample boobs as she sings, dances, yodels and announces "I've got great knockers!"

After explaining how her nipples stand to attention when it's cold, Heidi shouts: "You guys have no clue about boobs, and if you don't..."

Heidi then grabs her chest and makes a machine gun sound as she aims her breasts left and right, in the manner of a fembot killer robot from the 'Austin Powers' films, who could fire bullets from their breasts.

The commercial ends with Heidi grinning as she declares: "Great knockers, I loooove it!"

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs on December 4.

Heidi is not embarrassed to talk about her sexuality and womanly desires. She recently revealed she was first attracted to husband Seal after seeing his impressive "package" in a pair of tiny, tight shorts.

Heidi confessed: "I met him in a hotel lobby in New York City and he came in from the gym and I was sitting there and I was, like, 'Wow!' "He was wearing bicycle shorts and I pretty much saw everything. The whole package."

The couple have two sons, two-year-old Henry and Johan, who is one year old. Heidi also has a three-year-old daughter, Leni, from a previous relationship.

World's Strangest Weirdest Animals

Sun Bear

The Sun Bear (Helarctos malayanus) is a bear found primarily in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. The Sun Bear stands approximately 4 ft (1.2 m) in length, making it the smallest member in the bear family. It is often called the dog bear because of its small stature. It has a 2 in (5 cm) tail and on average weighs less than 145 lb (65 kg). Males tend to be slightly larger than females. Unlike other bears, the Sun Bear's fur is short and sleek. This adaptation is probably due to the lowland climates it inhabits. Dark black or brown-black fur covers its body, except on the chest where there is a pale orange-yellow marking in the shape of a horseshoe. Similar colored fur can be found around the muzzle and the eyes. This distinct marking gives the sun bear its name.

Komondor Dog

Females are 27 inches (69cm) at the withers. Male Komondorok are a minimum of 28 inches at the withers, but many are over 30 inches tall, making this one of the larger common breeds of dog. The body is not overly coarse or heavy, however, and people unfamiliar with the breed are often surprised by how quick and agile the dogs are. Its long, thick, strikingly corded white coat (the heaviest amount of fur in the canine world) resembles dreadlocks or a mop. The puppy coat is soft and fluffy. However, the coat is wavy and tends to curl as the puppy matures. A fully mature coat is formed naturally from the soft undercoat and the coarser outer coat combining to form tassels, or cords. Some help is needed in separating the cords so the dog does not turn into one large matted mess. The length of the cords increases with time as the coat grows. Shedding is very minimal with this breed, contrary to what one might think (once cords are fully formed). The only substantial shedding occurs as a puppy before the dreadlocks fully form. The Komondor is born with only a white coat, unlike the similar-looking Puli, which is usually white, black or sometimes grayish. However, a working Komondor's coat may be discolored by the elements, and may appear off-white if not washed regularly.

Angora Rabbit

The Angora rabbit is a variety of domestic rabbit bred for its long, soft hair. The Angora is one of the oldest types of domestic rabbit, originating in Ankara , Turkey , along with the Angora cat and Angora goat. The rabbits were popular pets with French royalty in the mid 1700s, and spread to other parts of Europe by the end of the century. They first appeared in the United States in the early 1900s. They are bred largely for their long wool, which may be removed by shearing or plucking (gently pulling loose wool). There are many individual breeds of Angora rabbits, four of which are ARBA recognized. Such breeds include, French, German, Giant, English, Satin, Chinese, Swiss, Finnish, to name a few.

Red Panda

The Red Panda, Ailurus fulgens ("shining cat," from a Latinized form of the Greek, ailouros, "cat," and the participial form of the Latin fulgere, "to shine") is a mostly herbivorous mammal, slightly larger than a domestic cat (55 cm long). The Red Panda has semi-retractile claws and, like the Giant Panda, has a "false thumb" which is really an extension of the wrist bone. Thick fur on the soles of the feet offers protection from cold and hides scent glands. The Red Panda is native to the Himalayas in Nepal and southern China. The word panda is derived from Nepalese word "ponya" which means bamboo and plants eating animals in Nepal .

Sloth

Sloths are medium-sized mammals that live in Central and South America belonging to the families Megalonychidae and Bradypodidae, part of the order Pilosa. Most scientists call these two families the Folivora suborder, while some call it Phyllophaga. Sloths are omnivores. They may eat insects, small lizards and carrion, but their diet consists mostly of buds, tender shoots, and leaves. Sloths have made extraordinary adaptations to an arboreal browsing lifestyle. Leaves, their main food source, provide very little energy or nutrition and do not digest easily: sloths have very large, specialized, slow-acting stomachs with multiple compartments in which symbiotic bacteria break down the tough leaves. As much as two-thirds of a well-fed sloth's body-weight consists of the contents of its stomach, and the digestive process can take as long as a month or more to complete. Even so, leaves provide little energy, and sloths deal with this by a range of economy measures: they have very low metabolic rates (less than half of that expected for a creature of their size), and maintain low body temperatures when active (30 to 34 degrees Celsius or 86 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit), and still lower temperatures when resting. Sloths mainly live in Cecropia trees.

Emperor Tamarin

The Emperor Tamarin (Saguinus imperator) is a tamarin allegedly named for its similarity with the German emperor Wilhelm II. The name was first intended as a joke, but has become the official scientific name. This tamarin lives in the southwest Amazon Basin , in east Peru, north Bolivia and in the west Brazilian states of Acre and Amazonas. The fur of the Emperor Tamarin is predominantly grey colored, with yellowish speckles on its chest. The hands and feet are black and the tail is brown. Outstanding is its long, white mustache, which extends to both sides beyond the shoulders. The animal reaches a length of 24 to 26 cm, plus a 35 cm long tail. It weighs approximately 300 to 400 g. This primate inhabits tropical rain forests, living deep in the forest and also in open tree-covered areas. It is a diurnal animal, spending the majority of its days in the trees with quick, safe movements and broad jumps among the limbs.

White-faced Saki Monkey

The White-faced Saki (Pithecia pithecia), also known as the Guianan Saki and the Golden-faced Saki, is a species of saki monkey, a type of New World monkey, found in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela.. This monkey mostly feed on fruits, but also nuts, seeds, and insects.

Tapir

Tapirs are large browsing mammals, roughly pig-like in shape, with short, prehensile snouts. They inhabit jungle and forest regions of South America, Central America, and Southeast Asia . All four species of tapir are classified as endangered or vulnerable. Their closest relatives are the other odd-toed ungulates, horses and rhinoceroses.

Hagfish

Hagfish are marine craniates of the class Myxini, also known as Hyperotreti. Despite their name, there is some debate about whether they are strictly fish (as there is for lampreys), since they belong to a much more primitive lineage than any other group that is commonly defined fish (Chondrichthyes and Osteichthyes). Their unusual feeding habits and slime-producing capabilities have led members of the scientific and popular media to dub the hagfish as the most "disgusting" of all sea creatures. Hagfish are long, vermiform and can exude copious quantities of a sticky slime or mucus (from which the typical species Myxine glutinosa was named). When captured and held by the tail, they escape by secreting the fibrous slime, which turns into a thick and sticky gel when combined with water, and then cleaning off by tying themselves in an overhand knot which works its way from the head to the tail of the animal, scraping off the slime as it goes. Some authorities conjecture that this singular behavior may assist them in extricating themselves from the jaws of predatory fish. However, the "sliming" also seems to act as a distraction to predators, and free-swimming hagfish are seen to "slime" when agitated and will later clear the mucus off by way of the same travelling-knot behavior.

Star-nosed Mole

The Star-nosed Mole (Condylura cristata) is a small North American mole found in eastern Canada and the north-eastern United States . It is the only member of the tribe Condylurini and the genus Condylura. It lives in wet lowland areas and eats small invertebrates, aquatic insects, worms and molluscs. It is a good swimmer and can forage along the bottoms of streams and ponds. Like other moles, this animal digs shallow surface tunnels for foraging; often, these tunnels exit underwater. It is active day and night and remains active in winter, when it has been observed tunnelling through the snow and swimming in ice-covered streams. Little is known about the social behavior of the species, but it is suspected that it is colonial. The Star-nosed Mole is covered in thick blackish brown water-repellent fur and has large scaled feet and a long thick tail, which appears to function as a fat storage reserve for the spring breeding season. Adults are 15 to 20 cm in length, weigh about 55 g, and have 44 teeth. The mole's most distinctive feature is a circle of 22 mobile, pink, fleshy tentacles at the end of the snout. These are used to identify food by touch, such as worms, insects and crustaceans.

Proboscis Monkey

Nasalis larvatus also known as Long-nosed Monkey is a reddish-brown arboreal Old World monkey. It is the only species in monotypic genus Nasalis. The most distinctive trait of this monkey is the male's large protruding nose. The purpose of the large nose is unclear, but it has been suggested that it is a result of sexual selection. The female Proboscis Monkey prefers big-nosed male s, thus propagating the trait. Males are much larger than females, reaching 72 cm (28 inches) in length, with an up to 75 cm tail, and weighing up to 24 kg (53 pounds). Females are up to 60 cm long, weighing up to 12 kg (26 lb). The Proboscis Monkey also has a large belly, as a result of its diet. Its digestive system is divided into several parts, with distinctive gut flora, which help in digesting leaves. This digestive process releases a lot of gas, resulting in the monkey's "bloated" bellies. A side-effect of this unique digestive system is that it is unable to digest ripe fruit, unlike most other simians. The diet consists mainly of fruits, seeds and leaves.

Pink Fairy Armadillo

The Pink Fairy Armadillo (Chlamyphorus truncatus) or Pichiciego is the smallest species of armadillo (mammals of the family Dasypodidae, mostly known for having a bony armor shell). It is approximately 90-115 mm long excluding the tail, and is pale rose or pink in color. It is found in central Argentina where it inhabits dry grasslands and sandy plains with thorn bushes and cacti. It has the ability to bury itself completely in a matter of seconds if frightened. The Pink Fairy Armadillo burrows small holes near ant colonies in dry dirt. It feeds mainly on ants and ant larvae near its burrow. Occasionally it feeds on worms, snails, insects and larvae, or various plant and root material.

Axolotl

The Axolotl (or ajolote) (Ambystoma mexicanum) is the best-known of the Mexican neotenic mole salamanders belonging to the Tiger Salamander complex. Larvae of this species fail to undergo metamorphosis, so the adults remain aquatic and gilled. The species originates from the lake underlying Mexico City . Axolotls are used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate most body parts, ease of breeding, and large embryos. They are commonly kept as pets in the United States , Great Britain , Australia , Japan (where they are sold under the name Wooper Rooper, and other countries. Axolotls should not be confused with waterdogs, the larval stage of the closely related Tiger Salamanders (Ambystoma tigrinum and Ambystoma mavortium), which is widespread in much of North America which also occasionally become neotenic, nor with mudpuppies (Necturus spp.), fully aquatic salamanders which are unrelated to the axolotl but which bear a superficial resemblance.

Aye-aye

The Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is a strepsirrhine native to Madagascar that combines rodent-like teeth with a long, thin middle finger to fill the same ecological niche as a woodpecker. It is the world's largest nocturnal primate, and is characterized by its unique method of finding food; it taps on trees to find grubs, then gnaws holes in the wood and inserts its elongated middle finger to pull the grubs out. Daubentonia is the only genus in the family Daubentoniidae and infraorder Chiromyiformes. The Aye-aye is the only extant member of the genus (although it is currently an endangered species); a second species (Daubentonia robusta) was exterminated over the last few centuries.

Alpaca

The Alpaca (Vicugna pacos) is a domesticated species of South American camelid developed from the wild alpacas. It resembles a sheep in appearance, but is larger and has a long erect neck as well as coming in many colors, whereas sheep are generally bred to be white and black. Alpacas are kept in herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of Ecuador, southern Peru , northern Bolivia , and northern Chile at an altitude of 3500 to 5000 meters above sea-level, throughout the year. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike them are not used as beasts of burden but are valued only for their fiber. Alpacas only have fleece fibers, not woolen fibers, used for making knitted and woven items much as sheeps wool is. These items include blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, a wide variety of textiles and ponchos in South America , and sweaters, socks and coats in other parts of the world. The fiber comes in more than 52 natural colors as classified in Peru , 12 as classified in Australia and 22 as classified in America.

Dumbo Octopus

The octopuses of the genus Grimpoteuthis are sometimes nicknamed "Dumbo octopuses" from the ear-like fins protruding from the top of their "heads" (actually bodies), resembling the ears of Walt Disney's flying elephant. They are benthic creatures, living at extreme depths, and are some of the rarest of the Octopoda species.

Frill-necked Lizard

The Frill-necked Lizard, or Frilled Lizard also known as the Frilled Dragon, (Chlamydosaurus kingii) is so called because of the large ruff of skin which usually lies folded back against its head and neck. The neck frill is supported by long spines of cartilage, and when the lizard is frightened, it gapes its mouth showing a bright pink or yellow lining, and the frill flares out, displaying bright orange and red scales. The frill may also aid in thermoregulation. They may grow up to one metre in total length. They often walk quadrupedally when on the ground. When frightened they begin to run on all-fours and then accelerate onto the hind-legs. In Australia, the frill-necked lizard is also known as the "bicycle lizard" because of this behaviour.. Males are significantly larger than females both as juveniles and when mature. The frill of the Australian frilled dragon is used to frighten off potential predators â₆as well as hissing and lunging. If this fails to ward off the threat, the lizard flees bipedally to a nearby tree where it climbs to the top and relies on camouflage to keep it hidden.

Narwhal

The Narwhal (Monodon monoceros) is an Arctic species of cetacean. It is a creature rarely found south of latitude 70°N. It is one of two species of white whale in the Monodontidae family (the other is the beluga whale). It is possibly also related to the Irrawaddy dolphin. The English name narwhal is derived from the Dutch name narwal which in turn comes from the Danish narhval which is based on the Old Norse word nar, meaning "corpse." This is a reference to the animal's colour. The narwhal is also commonly known as the Moon Whale. In some parts of the world, the Narwhal is colloquially referred to as a "reamfish.

Pygmy Marmoset

The Pygmy Marmoset (Callithrix (Cebuella) pygmaea) is a monkey native to the rainforest canopies of western Brazil, southeastern Colombia , eastern Ecuador , and eastern Peru . It is one of the smallest primates, with its body length ranging from 14-16 cm (excluding the 15-20 cm tail) and the smallest monkey. Males weigh around 140 g (5 ounces), and females only 120 g ( 4.2 ounces). Despite its name, the Pygmy Marmoset is somewhat different from the typical marmosets classified in genus Callithrix. As such, it is accorded its own subgenus, which was formerly recognized as its own genus, Cebuella. The Pygmy Marmoset has a tawny coat, and a ringed tail that can be as long as its body. Their claws are specially adapted for climbing trees, a trait unique to the species. They are omnivorous, feeding on fruit, leaves, insects, and sometimes even small reptiles. Much of their diet, however, comes from tapping trees for sap. Up to two-thirds of their time is spent gouging tree bark to reach the gummy sap. The Pygmy Marmoset has specialized incisors for gouging holes in bark. Unfortunately, because of its small size, and its swift movements, it is very hard to observe in the wild. In captivity, the Pygmy Marmoset can live up to 11 years.

Blobfish

The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) is a fish that inhabits the deep waters off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania . Due to the inaccessibility of its habitat, it is rarely seen by humans. Blobfish are found at depths where the pressure is several dozens of times higher than at sea level, which would likely make gas bladders inefficient. To remain buoyant, the flesh of the blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water; this allows the fish to float above the sea floor without expending energy on swimming. The relative lack of muscle is not a disadvantage as it primarily swallows edible matter that floats by in front it.

Platypus

The Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is a semi-aquatic mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. It is the sole living representative of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record. The bizarre appearance of this egg-laying, duck-billed mammal baffled naturalists when it was first discovered, with some considering it an elaborate fraud. It is one of the few venomous mammals; the male Platypus has a spur on the hind foot which delivers a poison capable of causing severe pain to humans. The unique features of the Platypus make it an important subject in the study of evolutionary biology and a recognizable and iconic symbol of Australia; it has appeared as a mascot at national events and is featured on the reverse of the Australian 20 cent coin. Until the early 20th century it was hunted for its fur, but it is now protected throughout its range. Although captive breeding programs have had only limited success and the Platypus is vulnerable to the effects of pollution.

Hydropolis - World's first luxury underwater hotel

Hydropolis, currently under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the world's first luxury underwater hotel.

It will include three elements: the land station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which will transport people by train to the main area of the hotel, and the 220 suites within the submarine leisure complex. It is one of the largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an area of 260 hectares, about the size of London's Hyde Park.

Project Summary:
Architect and designer - Joachim Hauser
Estimated cost - £300 million
Projected completion - December 2007

In order to enter this surreal space, visitors will begin at the land station. This 120m woven, semicircular cylinder will arch over a multi-storey building.

Hydropolis is about to take shape 20m below the surface of the Arabian Gulf, just off the Jumeirah Beach. The land belongs to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and was his last free beach property on this stretch of coast.

Architect Joachim Hauser plans to incorporate many different elements associated with the sea. He views his creation as a place where those who do not dive - or do not even swim - can experience the tranquillity and inspiration of the underwater world.

The upper storeys of the land station house a variety of facilities, including a cosmetic surgical clinic, a marine biological research laboratory and conference facilities.

2007 Mazda Taiki Concept Car

The all-new, 2007 Mazda Taiki concept car, equipped with the next-generation rotary engine, has been revealed by Mazda Motor Corporation.
(High resolution wallpapers, click to enlarge the image)

The basic proportions begin with the stretched coupe form of a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, the short overhangs, and the liberating feel of an all-glass canopy. The challenge to create ''a design that visually expresses the flow of air" was inspired by the image of a pair of Hagoromo - the flowing robes that enable a celestial maiden to fly in Japanese legend - floating down from the sky.

Centering around the performance rotary engine sports packaging that is synonymous with the Mazda name, technologies introduced for the Mazda Taiki include the next-generation RENESIS (rotary engine 16X), which sets new standards for environmental and driving performance, a front-engine rear-drive layout, a unique 2-seat configuration, and Mazda's rotary sports package, which conveys an image of lightness. The effect integrates the design theme perfectly to realize outstanding aerodynamic performance.

The outer panels of the doors that open widely toward the front form a relief that symbolizes the accelerating flow of air actually experienced by the designer during wind tunnel tests. The edges of the blades that comprise the grille are fitted with ultra-fine rows of brilliant LEDs. The rear combination lamps and door-mounted turn signal lamps employ unique Mazda technology and appear to shine through the body color but are distinguishable only when lit. The effect throughout creates the illusion of flowing air being transformed into lights visible to the human eye.

On the driver's side, the dashboard twists in dynamic fashion and continues on the cushion of the driver's seat. The independent seatback and headrest also create a new expression of flowing lightly, as though on a breeze. Black trim used as the keynote color, creates an environment that better helps the driver concentrate on driving.

The passenger 'zone' provides the relaxing comfort of a lounge chair surrounded by plenty of legroom. Multi-control switches for the respective systems are integrated into the rotary-inspired steering wheel in a design that allows drivers to perform all driving operations without removing their hands from the steering wheel. Also integrated into the steering wheel is a multi-display that provides the driver with a variety of information displays.

Akshay Kumar's new Sikh look in 'Singh is King' film

Akshay Kumar's forthcoming film, "Singh Is King", being produced by Vipul Shah and which is currently being filmed in Australia, features him in a new avatar of a Sikh.(Click on image to enlarge)

There has been a lot of speculation in the media about Akshay's new look. Akshay Kumar is one actor who is experimenting with his looks a lot these days. The Akshay-Katrina Kaif comedy directed by Anees Bazmee.

An Australian website has carried a photograph of Kumar on the sets in his turban. The film's producers are reportedly very angry. Singh is King was being filmed at Evandale when the website photographer clicked the pictures of Akshay Kumar, from a distance, during a scene. The Indian producer tried to order the photographer off the public land, claiming the shot could cause copyright issues.

Singh is King, has been filming everywhere from Q1 to the Wave Building and the Hinterland to the beaches.

There are also rumors that this film is basically produced and financed by none other than Akshay Kumar himself. Vipul Shah denied the rumors very strongly and said, “I am not going to talk about this at all, as this is completely ridiculous. To get the clarification on this, you need to talk to Akshay himself and find out. And as far as I am concerned, I do not want to talk about the money at all.”

The $10 million production is due to be completed in December with the finished product hitting Australian screens between May and August. About 60 local film-makers are working on the film as well as the Indian crew.

Hummer is a brand of large off-road vehicles (H1) or sport utility vehicles (SUVs) (H2, H3, H4) sold by General Motors, also known as GM. They are based on the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), or Humvee.
(To enlarge high-resolution wallpapers, click on the images)

The Hummer is one of the larger 4x4 types, with commensurate high fuel consumption. In most countries, a Hummer is considered to be a truck, rather than a regular SUV as it does not meet environmental protection standards. In some countries, including New Zealand and Australia, a truck licence is needed in order to operate the Hummer.

Specifications
Engine - 6.2 liter V8
Weight - 6614 lbs
Torque - 415 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm
HP - 393 hp @ 5700 rpm
Towing - 8,000 lbs

2008 Hummer H2 has a completely redesigned, more refined interior that combines luxury with HUMMER’s legendary ruggedness; enhanced safety features and a more powerful engine that is coupled with a new, six-speed automatic transmission.

The new powertrain combination consists of a 6.2L all-aluminum small-block V-8 engine, rated at 393 horsepower – an increase of about 20 percent over the previous engine – and a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission. Performance-optimizing engine technologies, such as variable valve timing, and the six-speed’s wide gear ratios, including a “tall” overdrive gear, enable the improved performance and efficiency over previous models.

All-new interiors
While drivers will feel the ’08 H2’s improved performance on the road, they’ll appreciate it more while experiencing it in the all-new interior. It features a completely redesigned instrument panel, new seats – including a full third-row seat for two passengers – new door trim panels, new controls, new rear-seat heating/air conditioning system, new rear-seat overhead DVD entertainment system and a new family of premium radios.

Seats in the H2 have a new, chiseled appearance and offer improved comfort. Complementing the new seats are new door trim panels and an all-new instrument panel and six-gauge instrument cluster. Convenience features such as a new rear-seat, overhead DVD entertainment system, a navigation system, a rear-view camera system, heated windshield washer fluid, OnStar and XM Satellite Radio are standard. The ’08 H2 also offers a remote starting system that enables the vehicle’s interior to be heated or cooled prior to driving.

Exterior
All 2008 H2 models are distinguished from previous models with functional changes that maintain HUMMER’s instantly recognizable design identify. The iconic, seven-slot grille features larger openings and the lower grille also is enlarged, accommodating the cooling needs of the more powerful 6.2L V-8 engines.

Futuristic Phones

(Courtesy: Srirang G.)
1 .. Nokia 888 Communicator
Nokia definitely has the most interesting concept phones. Nokia 888 Communicator is a striking futuristic concept phone. The phone, which uses liquid batteries, speech recognition, flexible touchscreen and touch-sensitive body cover,is designed by Tamer Nakisci and won the Nokia Design Award.

2 .. Nokia Aeon
Nokia Aeon was presented by Nokia in the Research & Development section. What is so great about this phone is that it looks like it will actually go into production next February. Of course, its just a rumor, but still, makes us hope to actually see it someday in the GSM shop. All we know about it for now is that its a touchscreen phone and it looks fantastic.

3 .. Sky "Sleak n Slim"
"Sleek & Slim" from SKY is another concept based on touchscreen technology. The phone has a discretely glowing touchpad, hideaway keys and generally utterly-fashionable minimalist design.

4 .. Benq-Siemes "Snaked"
Benq designers thought of women too and presented Snaked. This is a "reptile" looking phone, creepy somehow, but still is very cool. The Snaked is a fashion phone for sport loving women, because it also has body monitoring sensors to help the ladies keep those fine shapes.

5 .. What You See is What You Get Concept
One thing is for sure about this concept phone…they could've named it shorter. Designed by Pei-Hua Hang, the phone's name comes from the fact that this concept no longer uses an LCD as viewfinder for the digital camera, instead it uses a transparent frame. And of course, interaction is made through a touchscreen.

6 .. Retroxis By Dark Label
If most phones presented here will never be sold in store for sure, the Retroxis concept phone from Dark Label looks kinda human, and makes us hope we'll be able to get one of these one day. Designed by Lim Sze Tat the phone is encased in high polished polycarbonate renowned for its lightweight and toughness and has an invisible OLED display that silently hides away when inactive.

7 .. Benq-Siemens "The Blackbox"
Black Box designed by Benq-Siemens uses a touch screen as its keypad and, depending on the functions you are using, the touch screen changes the control layout immediately.

8 .. NEC Tag
Somehow similar to the Snaked concept, the NEC Tag is a flexible phone concept that can be, for example, hung from a belt or wrapped around the user's arm. Interesting is that the phone has shape-memorizing material and sensors that allows the phone to change its shape according to the mode.

9.. TripleWatch
Though the idea of a cellphone watch is not so new, the TripleWatch designed by Manon Maneenawa has an interesting triple flip technique that allows the user to transform the watch into a normal cellphone. When used as a wrist watch, the phone has a speaker button that allows the user to answer the phone and hang up while driving.

10 .. Asus Aura

This is Aura concept phone designed by Egy Studio for Asus. Some people said the phone is inspired by the Apple iPhone. But, the Asus Aura concept does more then iPhone. It supports 3G, EDGE, HSDPA and WiFi. It has a 3.9-inch touchscreen, a 2Megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, a microSD slot, miniUSB. It also has a sliding QWERTY keyboard and is as thin as 6mm.

Om Shanti Om London premiere pictures

The premier of "Om Shanti Om" in Leicester Square, London Nov 8, was attended by Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and thousands of cheering fans. (Click to enlarge images)

This was the first time an Indian film had premiered at the Empire at Leicester Square - home of all London movie premieres, Khan said.

Speaking on the occasion Shah Rukh Khan said London was the perfect launching pad for the film because of the history of "cultural cross-pollination" between India and Britain.

"I have always thought that we should be taking the first steps to bring out India's economy and culture to the world," he said. “It’s a beginning. Every new film helps us to mount the steps,” he said.

Meanwhile 'King Khan' Shah Rukh is upbeat about the prospects of the movie and feels that the audience will love it.

"If a lot of people love the offering of love that my company has made then that is achievement, money and all will keep happening later," said Shah Rukh Khan, actor and producer of "Om Shanti Om".

The story of the film revolves around Om (Shah Rukh Khan), a struggling junior artiste in the '70s' celluloid era and madly in love with the biggest star of his time Shanti (Deepika Padukone). But in his first life he cannot find his true love and dies an untimely death. Om is reborn and the story flash forwards to the present day. Haunted by memories of his past life and his true love, Om attempts to solve the mystery of his death, and also to reunite with Shanti, the love of his past life.

Director Farah Khan has pulled out all the stops to make her venture a complete eye-catcher, cashing in on the charisma of Shah Rukh Khan. She has also roped in 31 actors from the past and present era for an item number in the movie.

Bollywood is no stranger to movies made on the theme of reincarnation, and has ruled the box office for long time. Earlier movies like Karz and Karan Arjun (a Shah Rukh Khan starrer) based on the theme of reincarnation were the biggest hits of their time.

The duo of actor Shah Rukh Khan and Director Farah Khan in 2004 gave the biggest hit of the year, Main Hoon Na.

Girl with four arms, four legs operated successfully

Two-year-old Lakshmi, who was born with four arms and four legs, was successfully operated upon by a team of 30 doctors at the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore.

Doctors successfully removed the child's extra limbs, salvaged her organs and rebuilt her pelvis area in a 27-hour surgery, which was completed much before the estimated time of 40 hours.

The girl, who was named Lakshmi aftet a four-armed Hindu goddess of wealth, had been living with her parents in a remote village in the northern state of Bihar where she has been both venerated and hounded.

Lakshmi suffered from a rare condition called isciopagus, which means that she was joined to a twin who stopped developing in the womb. The twin's limbs, kidneys and other body parts had been absorbed in Lakshmi's body. Lakshmi could not stand or walk and she had merged spines, four kidneys, entangled nerves, two stomach cavities and two chest cavities. Lakshmi's condition had drawn unwanted attention. Her parents hid her after a circus apparently tried to buy the girl.

Lakshmi is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. Lakshmi has been described as a cute and playful girl who gets on well with others.

"Everybody considers her a goddess at our village," said her father, Shambhu. "All this expenditure has happened to make her normal. So far, everything is fine."

Dr Sharan Shivraj Patil who led the surgery said it is indeed a proud moment for him. “We had to go very slowly in a step by step manner. We had to identify each structure time and again. Also we had to understand the vascularity so that we don’t burn any bridges. Our team did a wonderful job in that aspect and once we did that we had to salvage the kidney.”

“I should proudly say that the orthopedic team was brilliant. We separated the bones, which belonged to Lakshmi and in fact we did innovate a few things and retained some part of the parasitic twin to reconstruct the pelvis. This is because her pelvis did not have enough bone to reconstruct,” Patil explained.

However the next few days are crucial for Lakshmi. The marathon surgery that started on Tuesday at 0700 hours lasted till 1000 hours on Wednesday. Doctors at Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore said they were performing the surgery, which they estimated cost $625,000, for free because the girl's family could not afford the medical bills.

Shah Rukh Khan warns Saawariya

Before leaving for the London premiere of his film on November 8, Shah Rukh Khan sounded out a warning to Saawariya which is set to release on the same day as his film 'Om Shanti Om'.

Speaking about his stellar track record with Diwali releases, Khan laughed. "Diwali sirf meri hain. Yeh sirf main manaata hoon," he joked. He's had major Diwali hits each time, and his Don last year completely buried Jaan-E-Mann, starring Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

This time, Saawariya doesn't have star power - with newcomer star-kids Ranbir and Sonam - but is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Khan said that cinema is about the complete package. "Saawariya may be a wonderful film, lekin 17 saal maine bhi jhak nahin maara." (but I haven't been idle for 17 years either)

Khan is all too aware, and appropriately quoted the Om Shanti Om dialogue, 'Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost.' ('The movie is still left, my friend.')

"I am promoting this film so much," Khan said, about the publicity going into probable overkill. "Now I feel all that's left for me to do is write Om Shanti Om on my forehead. People will say 'itna bol raha hai, dekh hi lete hain.'" ('He's saying so much, lets see the film anyway.)

But Sanjay Leela Bhansali is quite chilled out on the eve of the release of Saawariya and took potshots at Om Shanti Om.

According to him, "I think the audience is tired and fed up of the 40-year-old hero. They want to see fresh, young faces. And that is why I am presenting to movie-goers, the chance to see new faces. How long do you think women will swoon over 40-year-old heroes?"

Obviously he was talking about Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. But this statement is more relevant for SRK, since Salman has stood by Bhansali during bad times, and is a friend. Bhansali will not use sarcastic remarks for Salman. Aamir and Bhansali have never had anything to do with each other, and, anyway, the director never comments on people who are going through a bad phase – Aamir is facing personal problems because of his brother Faisal.

Bhansali further said "My very first film Khamoshi was the biggest flop of my career. Thanks to Khamoshi, I've become immune to success and failure. Black has reinforced my belief in myself". "Look, I'm human. I'm not God. Though I want Om Shanti Om to be a hit, I wish Saawariya is a ten-times bigger hit. Shah Rukh Khan and I are not running a 100 meter race. Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have their kind of audience and I have my mine. To tell you the truth, I'm not excited enough. I don't want to see Om Shanti Om".

Bhansali said that he believes in competition, because that inspires you and makes you work harder.

Google Android

Google is preparing to introduce a suite of software for mobile phones based on open-source technology, backed by some of the largest wireless industry companies in the world.

Google is expected to hold a press conference on Monday to unveil the project, which is expected to incorporate Linux software into a mobile platform code-named Android that's designed to run on phones. Its partners include Sprint Nextel Corp, Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile USA, Motorola Inc and Samsung Electronics. Android was a mobile-phone software company acquired by Google in 2005.

The phones are expected to come on the market around the middle of 2008. Google had engaged Taiwan's (HTC) High Tech Computer Corp. to design a Linux software-based phone for launch in the first quarter.

Kareena Kapoor will wear a bikini in Tashan

Bollywood is abuzz with talk that Kareena Kapoor will wear a bikini for a few portions of the Yashraj Films presentation ‘Tashan’ that has Kareena Kapoor pairing with her new boyfriend Saif Ali Khan. (Click to enlarge images)

Though she has played a number of glamourous roles in her acting career, she has never exposed beyond a limit. Now, that limit might be redefined.

It is learnt that director Vijay Krishna Acharya and producer Aditya Chopra want to present Kareena in an entirely new avatar in ‘Tashan’. Aditya was previously instrumental in presenting Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu in hot avatars in Dhoom 2. Now he is apparently doing the same to Kareena.

Reports say the reason why Kareena has been shedding her flab and getting in shape in the last few months is for the bikini scenes that will be shot in February 2008. She has hired a yoga trainer from Bharat Thakur's school and a dietician called Roojuta who helps her in following a healthy diet routine.

Kareena says that she has lost weight for her role in Yashraj Film's Tashan, which requires her to do lots of stunts in the film. That is why she has to get in shape.

However, there has been no official confirmation of the bikini scenes from either Kareena or the film’s makers.

Besides Kareena and Saif, 'Tashan' also stars Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor.
